This week has been a good one. Elder Baxter is an awesome missionary
and we have worked well together. We had a lot of investigators drop
us lately though and it's kinda sad. But we have been trying hard to
find new people. Our on date investigator, Shane is moving to Bandon
on the coast and so we are pretty sad about that too. We will miss
him.

We met some crazy people lately. One lady was a bit wacky so we hopped
on the bus trying to get away from her because she was telling us
people were going to kill us haha. As we drove away she tried to chase
us on her bike and was screaming. Eugene for ya. Another guy told us
that we needed to get ready because Donald Trump was the anti-Christ
and he knew the future because the Lord showed him. We talked to him
for a bit and when it didn't go anywhere we just thanked him for his
warning and left him rambling about how Paul had no Apostolic
authority. Haha so Elder Baxter has been here two weeks and already
met some winners.

Yesterday I went on splits with one of the Zone leaders so he could go
out to the Blue River Branch church meetings and his companion could
stay here with their investigators. It was very fun and I met some
good people, tiny branch though.

Oh and when I came back from Blue River we met at our church building
in Springfield, and I saw a lady who had been baptized in Eugene 3rd
before I got there whom I had the privilege to teach new member
lessons to. I heard she had moved and nobody knew where she was and it
broke my heart to hear she wasn't active anymore. But when I got to
the church building I saw her walking out and almost cried! I ran up
and was like "Grace!!!!" And she probably thought I was crazy but then
recognized me. We talked for a bit and she told me about how she just
moved and got to nervous to go a new Ward but she felt like she need
to be there that Sunday. So happy I got to see her again.

Anyway more next week! Love ya!

Well Elder McCleary is headed to Coos Bay. It's sad but we had a
killer last week. Shauna Haidyn and Hailey all were baptized and it
was amazing. The Stake President said it was the most touching Baptism
he'd seen in a long time. Afterward they were all just beaming. It was
so cool to see the change. So that's 3 new members of Springfield 3rd
Ward with more on the way.

My new companion is Elder Christiansen. He's a great guy, I've served
with him before. The only problem is that this is his last transfer
and it's my second to last transfer so we will have to keep each other
motivated. This is the 4th time I've had a companion going home. But I
know at least he'll be willing to work hard with me unlike some. We
have a few people to baptize here before the transfer ends.

We have been working with some great people. Shane is continuing to
progress to baptism. We also have a guy named Donnie who is all in. He
really wants to be baptized July 1st, the only issue is he's very
prideful. He wants the Priesthood so he can "get recognized for having
God's Authority"... so we have a lot to teach him.

Anyway a lot of good things going. I'm sure loving it. Talk to you
later. Love ya

This week has been good. Shauna and her Kid's baptism got pushed back
to the 3rd of June. We are working with them and they are way excited.
We have been working hard and finding a lot of people. Super happy to
be here in Springfield. Elder McCleary has been incredible and I've
enjoyed being his comp. This is a 7 week transfer so transfers will be
taking place on the 5th.

Anyway all is good here I had interviews with President. It was
awesome. He's such a good guy. Haha he is going home pretty soon. Hope
he's not trunky.

Anyway love you all!!!

April 24, 2017

It has been a wonderful week. I got here with Elder McCleary he is a
wonderful companion and right when I got here we went hard to work. We
have a few people on date here and a lot of people we are working
with. We have been running all over the place here in the Springfield
3rd Ward finding and teaching. We have a family on date. It is a
single mom named Shauna and two kids Hailey and Hayden. They are the
bomb. They are so excited to be learning the gospel and will be
baptized this May. I'm glad I get to be a part of it.

At church we had six of our investigators there this week. We were so
happy to see so many people at church. We actually have a goal to by
the end of the transfer have more than 13 investigators at church.
Also as a Zone we tried to find 100 new investigators this week. We
hit 93 as a zone. It was pretty awesome to be a part of.

Cool miracle last night, we had been having a kind of tough time
finding investigators but we had faith that someone would be put in
our path. So after tracting most the day after church at 8:00 we just
decided to walk down Main Street and talk to everyone we saw. We had
talked to a lot of people and it was about 8:35 and nobody was
interested. But with a prayer in our hearts we kept going and came
across Chris. He said he was very interested in learning and that our
timing couldn't have been better. We were ecstatic! We figured out
where he lived and talked about the Plan of Salvation with him. It was
a great way to finish off our night last night.

I've been having a lot of fun here. Elder McCleary is a fun and very
hard working Elder. I'm so excited to keep working. Love you all!!!

Transfer Van

I'm headed to Springfield with Elder Mcleary. Oh boy!

~Elder S. Jackson Martin

Sunday, April 9, 2017

It has been a pretty good week. Elder Mata and I had a heck of a time
contacting people since it was spring break. Don't know what's up but
all of our people seem to be hiding. But it has been fun going around
and talking with the various people here in Medford. I don't know what
it is but here I seem to meet more people that want to bible bash with
us than I have my whole mission. I have tried to just be humble and
not argue but I find it hard and a couple times I have fallen into the
trap of Satan and began to argue back which only leads to more
contention. The only thing I feel actually accomplishes anything is to
bear testimony and leave them with that.

Elder Mata has been more willing to work. We had a good talk about how
he wanted to end his mission. Interviews with President this week
really made him think about what his priorities were. Even though it
is still somewhat difficult he is definitely doing much better. We
listened to a talk called; Following Christ to Victory from April 1979
conference (great talk highly recommended you all read it or watch
it). It inspired us when it talked about how tracting and things like
that help show the Lord that we are willing to work and he in turn
blesses us. President Russell then extended to us an invitation to do
a 9-9 which is tracting from 9am to 9pm. He said it would help our
companionship do better and we both have agreed so one of the days
this week we are going to be tired beyond belief. Pray for us.

General Conference was incredible. I was very inspired by the messages
shared and I was really lead to think about a lot of things I can work
on. I was very inspired by Dallin H. Oaks who always says it like it
is, and his comments on the Godhead. I was deeply touched by the
Priesthood session and felt so much more committed to being a
effective missionary after that session. Basically I loved it all and
was very happy to once again hear from Thomas S. Monson who has always
served the Lord with everything he has. I feel now more than ever that
he is a prophet and felt very glad to sustain him.

So that was the week. Kind of scattered in the email here but its all
good. Have a great week and thanks for all you do!

March 20, 2017

This week has been good. Elder Mata is a really fun awesome dude. He's
at the end of his mission and its a little hard to motivate him but
I'm just trying to keep my cool and be loving and encourage him to
work with me. Medford zone is the most struggling zone in the mission
right now. We have not been performing very well so this transfer we
are working hard on our goals to change that.

Despite the fact that I am in medford now we do not get to go to the
temple more often. We still only get one temple trip every six months
or a quarter depending on when our mission President says we can go.
We had a temple trip this Saturday though and that was amazing. I
always enjoy our temple visits and always come out feeling rejuvenated
and ready to work. Having that opportunity is amazing.

I am in Medford 8th ward and also cover the YSA ward. It's kind of
thought to do both because the YSA work here is really slow but a lot
of our focus ends up getting directed toward 8th ward. We do share the
ward with another set of Elders. Elder Hafen and Elder Nelson are
their names and they are great guys. Both of them are hard workers and
its really cool to serve around them.

Considering that Elder Mata is somewhat hard to get out of the
apartment I have not met many of our investigators so this week that's
one of my goals is to meet them all. I did meet one named Kirk. He is
a great guy. We went over to his house and he told us that he wanted
to quit smoking, drinking, and coffee and wanted to start coming to
church. He told us he wanted to quit those things and he hasn't even
been taught the Word of Wisdom.

Anyway I am way excited for this area. President Russell called me the
other day and told me he was really counting on me to make some stuff
happen here besides chilling. So I'm feeling some pressure. Well have
a great week and love you all!!

March 13, 2017

I'm going to Medford 8th Ward and will also be covering the Medford
YSA. My companion is Elder Mata who is famous for sleeping in until
3:00 one time... I'm a bit worried and this is his last transfer. I'm
in Klamath Falls right now and will leave for Medford in about an
hour.

February 20, 2017

We had a good week. We went on exchanges with our ZLs and it was way
fun. I went with Elder Borden who is the largest most ripped Hawaiian
I know. We had a great time and he's a very good Elder. Besides that
we've just been having fun with the work out here. We are trying to
find some more people to teach but we've tracted almost The Whole
town. We are working hard on Formers and Potentials. Today was
awesome. We got to play ball with the Priest in the Ward. I'm not any
good but Elder Ross is going to play college ball and the priest,
Tanner is playing varsity at the high school. It was awesome. Anyway
have a great week! Love you all!

February 27 - no letter

March 6, 2017

This week we got to go up to Medford for a zone conference. It was a
great uplifting meeting. I got to see Elder Willits and some of my
other former companions there. It was a good experience. Elder Ross
was very excited. His last zone was medford so he enjoyed going back
and seeing some of the missionaries he served with. We got to hear
from President and everyone so it was very good.

Our investigators on date have been struggling. Especially Mark. He
keep making his mind up to quit but doesn't hold out ver long. Right
now he's on a downward spiral and just keeps drinking more and more.
We are really worried about him. Andrew is doing great. He's so solid
and it's so good to see him being so active. He should be receiving
the Aaronic Priesthood this next Sunday so we are pretty pumped up
about that.

This week we had a lot of success passing out Book of Mormon copies.
We decided at the beginning of the week that we would focus on just
talking to people about the Book of Mormon. It went really well and we
passed out quite a few this week and in turn we got a good number of
return appointments. It was really cool what The Book of Mormon can
do.

Anyway that's about it! Thanks for all the prayers and support! Later!!

Monday, February 13, 2017

Hey there! It's been a great week. Andrew got baptized and it was so
awesome. His nonmember parents came and they loved it. His dad seemed
really touched. His mom drove from Susanville or something just to
come see him be baptized. The only member in Andrew's family is his
Grandma and she loved being able to see him be baptized. Andrew was
baptized by a Brother in the Ward who Andrew has always looked up to
named Brother Hagge. It was a great baptism and I'm so glad I got to
be there for it. The next day we confirmed him and he asked me to be
voice for it. I was nervous because it had been a while but once it
started I remembered that I didn't need to be nervous because the
spirit would let me know what to say.

Friday we had ZTM so we had to drive up to Oregon. It's so weird to
say that being in California and all. It was a great meeting but there
is so much flooding going on that we had to drive through a couple
rivers just to get up to Klamath Falls. I love the Zone we have here
and I wish we got to see them more. It's always a treat to be with
them all. This Friday we have interviews with President and we are
excited for that.

Besides that we have just been working hard. We found a new
investigator named Dane who seems really interested. He said he'd come
to church but got sick and called the church phone to let us know. It
was very nice of him. Mark is making his way toward baptism. He's
regaining the trust of his Wife and son since he is sober now for
about a month. If he can just keep off everything and stay away from
the chew he's going to make it. Brandi is struggling. I knew that when
Elder Willits left she would struggle. She loved him a ton and after
he left she got pretty sad. We are working with her but had to take
her off date until she is ready to commit. She is such a good gal and
we hope we can help her.

Great week and fun times. Elder Ross is a great comp. he's so funny.
Anyway have a great week!!!

~Elder S. Jackson Martin

Monday, February 6, 2017

Well Elder Ross is my new companion and he's great. He's from
Roosevelt, UT and has been out six months. We have a lot of fun
together and are just super happy to be working hard.

This week was pretty good. We had to push back Andrew to this weekend
for baptism but we had his interview and he is ready to go. Brandi who
is on for February 25 is not doing so well. We kept telling her she
couldn't smoke and she said she would quit but still hasn't so we will
have to push her date back. She's having a hard time without Elder
Willits. She really liked him and she always said I was too hard on
her. I try to be as loving as I can but I'm also trying to be bold
because she has to understand how serious it is. Anyway I'm kind of
torn up about that because she was making great progress. Mark is
doing awesome. He has quit drinking and tobacco and is on track for
March. We are working hard with all of our other people so we are
hoping they can commit. In missionary work I've found we can only do
so much and once we've done our job it's between the investigator and
the spirit. Too many investigators don't read or pray so they don't
have the spirit with them. It's hard to make it when your not letting
the Lord in.

Besides that we had stake Conference. It was great and President
Russell and Sister Russell spoke. Sister Russell cried when she told
everyone that they were going home in June. I wanted to cry too.
Andrew went up for Stake Conference while most the Branch stayed here
and had it broadcast. I was so pleased to hear when the Zone Leaders
Called us and said that he was there and seemed like he was just
excited as can be. He looked like one of the members is what they
said, soon enough that will be true.

Anyway we are having some good times. Last transfer we tracted like
all the the streets so now we are looking for other ways to keep busy.
Anyway more to come next week! Love you all

~Elder S. Jackson Martin
From 1/30/2017
Today is super busy. I got a new companion. His name is Elder Ross
from Roosevelt Utah. He is a way cool guy! Sorry short on time but
I'll email better next week! Love you all!!!

~Elder S. Jackson Martin

From 1/23/2017
We had a great week with a lot of great stuff getting done. We have
been working hard on our investigators on date to make sure they make
it. The people that we are focusing on the hardest are; Brandi, Mark,
and Andrew. They all have dates for baptism in February so we are
praying that they will make it happen. They all seem solid and
committed but sometimes when it gets close I get nervous because of in
Oakridge when someone backed out of baptism a couple days before. I
want them to feel prepared and ready so hopefully the spirit continues
to work with them and they don't give into Satan's garbage.

Friday we had another meeting in Klamath Falls. It was Zone Conference
and I really enjoyed it. That night we went on an exchange with the
Zone Leaders. They changed the way we do exchanges so now instead of
one person from each companionship going to each area now you all just
go to the leader's area. It was kind of interesting but not as much
awesome as the old way. I feel like an old man sometimes because I
tell young missionaries, "Back when I came out..." anyway back to the
exchange! We had some good times and I went out with Elder Thibault.
He has to be one of the best missionaries out here in the Oregon
Eugene Mission and I've always looked up to him. Elder Willits went
with Elder Borden who is a big buff Hawaiian with a football
scholarship to the University of Hawaii. We all went to dinner at this
house with and older couple who were watching the news from the
inauguration and wouldn't turn it off. The lady kept screaming,
"THAT'S RIGHT HILARY BITE YOUR TONGUE!!! IT'S TRUMP TIME BABY WOOT
WOOT!!" We kept trying to talk about the Gospel but haha they were
kind of interested in other things. Great dinner though, we had steak.
The rest of the night Elder Thibault and I did some tracting and we
got yelled at a lot. Not a lot of people like you knocking at 8:00
i've learned but whatever you just have to fear no man.

Saturday we went shopping in KF and then headed to Lakeview so Elder
Willits could give the Sisters' investigator a Baptismal Interview. He
was so happy and I was glad that he had an uplifting experience.
Sounds like he might be getting transferred Monday. We don't know for
sure but President hinted at it. I was also made designated driver
this morning for the last week of the transfer so it will probably
happen. I'm excited for Elder Willits because his whole mission so far
he has been down here in isolation and hasn't gotten to know many
people in the mission. I'm also worried about it because he is one of
the best missionaries I've worked with and I'm worried a lot of
Missionaries will try to put him down for being so obedient and hard
working. But he can take it.

Well good luck to you all! Talk to you later! Have fun!!!!!!!
